When Hillsboro, New Mexico was founded in 1877, the west was wide open and full of opportunity. Cowboys roamed the streets, prospectors and miners searched the hills and everyone had visions of striking it rich. Today Hillsboro is a quiet little town whose residents are dedicated to protecting and promoting its rich history.
The Hillsboro Historical Society was organized for that specific purpose. The Society Members raise monies through sales in our gift shop and through tours to local historic sites. Special events are an additional source of income.
A theateric play, which reenacts the Henry Fountain murder trial, is presented each year to a standing room only audience. In the past an Apple Festival was held for serveral years which attracted thousands of visitors.
